Personal Training

A journal for trainers who drive to the session · October 2026

The morning book

The 5 a.m. client lives twenty minutes from the last session.

If that gap is not on the ticket, the hour is gone.

Ember answers the trainer's phone, writes the package, the door, and the injury, and checks the drive before she holds the next hour.

Twenty minutes. Six sessions. The day from the first door to the last is eight hours, and driving is not training.

Training minutes left

An eight-hour day is 480 minutes from the first door to the last. Each session on the book is 60 minutes of training. Driving sits between addresses and is not training.

20training minutes left in the day

6 sessions × 60 minutes = 360 training. 5 gaps × 20 minutes = 100 driving. 480 − 460 = 20.

What is left will not hold another full hour unless a drive gets shorter.

The work

What has to be on the ticket before the car moves

Time
5:00 a.m. The client lives twenty minutes from the session before this one.
Package
Eight sessions, this is number four, already paid. Not a free consult.
Door
Third floor. Visitor stall under the building. Elevator past the mailboxes. Mat fits in the living room if the table moves.
Injury
Left shoulder. No overhead press in the house. The note is the client's words, not a diagnosis.
Hold
Do not put 6:00 on top of a twenty-minute drive. The next full hour does not exist unless the gap is written here.
  1. EmberWho is the session for, and is this the eight-pack or a single?
  2. TrainerEight-pack. She lives about twenty minutes from my 5 a.m.
  3. EmberI will put twenty minutes on the ticket. I will not hold 6:00 if that drive eats the hour. Anything she cannot do in the house?
  4. TrainerNo overhead. Left shoulder. Third floor, visitor stall.
  5. EmberNoted. One company calls her back. This does not go to a list.

How a call becomes a session

Package, door, injury, then the hour

  1. 01
    The package

The caller says whether this is a single session, an eight-pack, or a twelve-pack, and whether the hour is already paid. Ember writes that before she talks about the clock.

  2. 02
    The location

Floor, stairs, gate, parking, and which room has space for a mat. A third-floor walk-up and a garage with a rack are not the same drive or the same setup.

  3. 03
    The injury

What the client cannot do today, in their words. Ember does not diagnose. “No overhead on the left shoulder” is a programming note. The client’s own clinician stays the clinician.

  4. 04
    The gap

Minutes of driving from the previous address. A 5 a.m. client who lives twenty minutes from the last session does not get a 6:00 hold if that drive was never on the ticket.

  5. 05
    One company

The request goes to one paid Lite company inside the radius they set. They call back on their own phone. They can pass. The street address shows after they claim it.
